Matthew Vaughn hopefully directing ‘Man of Steel’ Sequel

Matthew Vaughn is said to be Warner Bros.’ primary pick for directing the sequel to Man of Steel.

Vaughn was the director, producer, and writer for Kingsman: The Secret Service so there’s no doubt in his ability to navigate through the process of comic book adaptation. Even more so, he achieved success in Fox’s X-Men universe with First Class and also Kick-Ass.

In 2010, Vaughn and Kick-Ass comic writer Mark Millar approached Warner Bros. about their vision for a Superman film, which ended being passed over in favor of Christopher Nolan and David Goyer’s Man of Steel. Not much is known about what Vaughn had in mind besides, “one thing not to do with Superman, trying to do the serious The Dark Knight version. Superman is about color and fun, or it should be, for me.”

That being said, the DCEU most definitely would have taken off in a different direction if their first film was done by Vaughn. Suicide Squad had post-production alterations to its tone and Zack Snyder has promised Justice League will be different from Dawn of Justice. It’s likely if Vaughn was the primary architect to the DC films, those changes would have been implemented earlier on the production of the films.
