My 500 Comics Goal #My500ComicGoal

by Neil Bui

I recently learned about an ongoing Twitter hashtag in the comic book community, #My500ComicGoal. Twitter user @FrankT2011 explained to me that “It is a hashtag started by Mike Nickells. He wanted to see if he could read 500 comics in the year. Some of us have reached it and are continuing on to see how many books we read by the end of the year.”

Nickells is a contributor to the pop culture website Comics Bulletin who made it his goal this year to read over 500 comics. In a post on the Comics Bulletin, #My500ComicGoal building community for comic fans by comic fans, he explains that this hashtag is meant to bring fans together to both share what they are reading and form a welcoming group for one another.

“We’re just about building an all-inclusive community built around our shared comic book fandom and having fun seeing what everyone is reading,” Nickells writes.

With a goal like that, how could I not want to participate in this? There are only 5 months left of this year, so I’d have to be reading 100 comics a month to make it. Fortunately, I’ve been reading comics irregularly and slightly keeping track.

I’ll be updating this page regularly as I make my way through over 500 comics before the end of this year!
