Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, TV, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, The Smashing Machine, ALPHA, and Marty Supreme.
- A Big Bold Beautiful Journey – Trailer
The new trailer for A Big Bold Beautiful Journey highlights the meet cute Colin Farrell and Margot Robbie’s characters share before their journey begins. It’s clear that this film is about breaking cycles of trauma in order to accept the happiness we deserve.
Release Date: In theaters on September 19, 2025
Synopsis: Some doors bring you to your past. Some doors lead you to your future. And some doors change everything. Sarah (Margot Robbie) and David (Colin Farrell) are single strangers who meet at a mutual friend’s wedding and soon, through a surprising twist of fate, find themselves on A Big Bold Beautiful Journey – a funny, fantastical, sweeping adventure together where they get to re-live important moments from their respective pasts, illuminating how they got to where they are in the present…and possibly getting a chance to alter their futures.
- The Smashing Machine – Trailer
There’s a joke waiting to be written about Dwayne Johnson being a former wrestler now playing the UFC fighter Mark Kerr, and the realness of UFC as opposed to the eternal questions about wrestling being fake. But it’s hard for me to switch back into a comedic headspace after feeling the weight and gravity of the trailer for this biopic, especially through the performances by Johnson and Emily Blunt. It’s also worth noting that this film will be Benny Safdie’s directorial debut after working alongside his older brother Josh Safdie as the Safdie Brothers on films such as Good Time and Uncut Gems.
Release Date: In theaters on October 3, 2025
Synopsis: The story of legendary mixed martial arts & UFC fighter Mark Kerr.
- ALPHA – Teaser
From the Cannes Film Festival comes this new film by the French director Julia Ducournau, known for her past works in the body horror genre, Raw and Titane.
Release Date: In theaters in October 2025
Synopsis: Alpha, a troubled 13-year-old lives with her single mom. Their world collapses the day she returns from school with a tattoo on her arm.
- Marty Supreme – Teaser
In the teaser for Marty Supreme, Timothee Chalamet reminds us of his range and strengths as a leading actor. And even in just a teaser trailer, I’m inspired to dream big and chase those dreams. And loosely related to The Smashing Machine, this film also serves as Josh Safdie’s directorial debut, making this year’s slate of films by A24 interesting, especially for fans of the Safdie Brothers.
Release Date: In theaters on December 25, 2025
Synopsis: Marty Mauser, a young man with a dream no one respects, goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness.
