by Jessica Tseang

It’s been 10 years since One Punch Man premiered on our screens and we celebrated the season 3 return at Anime Expo 2025. Fans were greeted with a free One Punch Man promotion pack card from Union Arena.

The panel was slated to be over an hour, as time was set aside and devoted to the main event for the One Punch Man panel: the hopes of setting a Guinness World Record of the most fans doing Santana’s signature final move: the ‘Serious Punch’.

After some practice from the fans, led by Makoto Furukawa (Japanese voice of Saitama), the Guinness World Record photographers took the stage and fans were left hoping that they were able to achieve a world record.

Joining Furukawa on stage were Max Mittelman (English voice of Saitama), Greg Chun (English voice of Garou), Toshiaki Oshima (manga editor), and Chinastu Matsui (producer).

Furukawa and Mittelman spoke of how happy they were to return to Anime Expo as their last appearance was in 2016. After nine years, they looked forward to season 3 being in production and to release sometime in October 2025.

Each panelist revealed their favorite scene and fans exploded in cheers as they got to go down a nostalgic road clip after clip.

Before we knew it, the panel was coming to a close. There was no news of who would be directing season 3, or an exact release date, but fans were not left entirely empty-handed.

Kaito Ishikawa, the Japanese voice of Genos, was a surprise as he showed up onstage, thanking the excited fans who did not see his appearance coming. ONE, the manga artist for One Punch Man, sent a note that was put on screen for us:

“Thank you to all U.S. fans! I am truly looking forward to the broadcast of Season 3 [which] will delve deeply into the thrilling new adventures of the S-Class Heroes. I want to thank the production team for their passion in bringing the spirit of the original manga to life and shaping it into a mesmerizing storyline which is unique to the anime.

A teaser trailer, which consists of a montage for characters that fans will be seeing for season 3, was shown followed by the moment many fans were waiting for: the announcement from the official Guinness World Record adjudicator.

In order to achieve a record, more than 250 fans needed to have done Saitama’s move ‘Serious Punch’ and over 1,000 fans participated, leading the panel to successfully obtain a Guinness World Record. Fans may not have left the panel seeing an official season 3 trailer, but they were a part of a historic moment at the very least.
