Since its manga debut in 1998, The Ghost in the Shell has become a legendary sci-fi franchise with iconic futuristic eyewear. Now JINS is translating that cyberpunk aesthetic and tactical hardware into real-world functional eyewear for everyday use with a limited-edition collaboration.
The latest TV anime series, The Ghost in the Shell, is currenting airing and being celebrated with this collection by JINS with a release date of July 16, 2026. This collaboration will also debut newly commissioned visuals across the retail storefronts as well as the online landing page, further bringing The Ghost in the Shell world to life.
The central piece is JINS’ first-ever electronic photochromic sunglasses which will be limited to 1,000 units worldwide. The lenses of these sunglasses will automatically adjust shift opacity in immediate response to ambient light levels, through the use of advanced liquid crystal film technology.
The optical glasses include four styles across two different design shapes (and two color options) inspired by the tactical goggles seen throughout The Ghost in the Shell. Fusing aluminum and stainless steel, these cyberpunk frames have a raw, mechanical texture and are also equipped with JINS’ proprietary Multi-Directional Movement Hinge that features a cylindrical design that balances fluid movement with an effortless fit.
The electronic photochromic sunglasses will be available for $390 and the optical glasses will be available for $290. Each pair comes with an exclusive cleaning cloth featuring the first of the new visuals, which pays homage to the original artwork by series creator Masamuni Shirow. In addition to the cleaning cloth, there will also be special-edition packaging, a soft case, and glasses cord inspired by QRS interface plugs which will speak to fans of The Ghost in the Shell or even any fans of cyberpunk fashion.
