Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, TV, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, The Last House, and Ricky Gervais’ Alley Cats.
- Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender – Trailer
Fans of the Avatar: The Last Airbender can look forward to a new story featuring an adult Gaang in Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, that shows us the world following the end of the Hundred Year War but not quite where we find it in The Legend of Korra.
Release Date: On Paramount+ on July 25, 2026
Synopsis: Avatar Aang, the world’s last Airbender, learns of an ancient power that could save his culture from extinction. With the help of his friends, he embarks on a global quest to find it before it falls into the wrong hands and threatens to upend the peace they sacrificed everything to achieve.
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day – Trailer
After what a felt like packed Phase Five for the Marvel Cinematic Universe with 6 films between 2023 and the first half of 2025 along with 8 series, Phase Six has felt much easier to digest with the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day being the second film following last year’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps and the last stop before Avengers: Doomsday at the end of this year. Don’t get me wrong, we still had series such as Eyes of Wakanda, Marvel Zombies, Wonder Man, and Daredevil: Born Again, with VisionQuest and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man coming up as well. I bring this up all to say that it feels like Marvel is aware of superhero fatigue and seems to be dialing it back so that perhaps Brand New Day will feel like tentpole blockbuster the studio execs and webhead fans around the world want it to be.
Release Date: In theaters on July 31, 2026
Synopsis: It’s a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves – a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.
- The Last House – Trailer
Greta Lee (Past Lives) and Wagner Moura (Civil War, The Secret Agent) star as parents in this upcoming sci-fi thriller, The Last House, that feels just as much as a horror film with this unknown danger threatening the family’s survival. And of course, the biggest question driving me to watch this is “WILL THE KIDS BE OKAY?!”
Release Date: On Netflix on August 7, 2026
Synopsis: A family of four are suddenly sealed inside their home with no way out, and must work together to survive against both their dwindling resources and the mysterious, looming threat that is keeping them trapped.
- Ricky Gervais’ Alley Cats – Trailer
From Ricky Gervais comes Alley Cats, an animated comedy featuring cats. Cats from Britain. So expect the British comedy of the original The Office. And while British comedy isn’t always my cup of tea (see what I did there), the trailer does include a glimpse into unhinged chaos that I am a fan of.
Release Date: On Netflix on August 7, 2026
Synopsis: The series follows the trials and tribulations of a group of feral British cats from all walks of society, who seek companionship while ruminating on everyday life.
