Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, TV, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on Call of the Night, Too Much, Superman, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
- Call of the Night Season 2 – Teaser
From Twilight to this year’s Sinners, vampires have a constant presence in pop culture so it should be no surprise that there’s a Japanese anime with its own interpretation on how a human is turned into a vampire, cue: Call of the Night, now with an upcoming second season as of next month.
Release Date: On HIDIVE in July 2025
Synopsis: Ko, a boy searching for a new life, believes turning into a vampire is easy. One bite and you’re thirsty for blood, right? That all changes when he meets Nazuna, a vampire who shares the real requirements for immortality.
- Lena Dunham’s Too Much – Trailer
You’ve heard of Emily in Paris, now here’s Jessica (Megan Stalter) in London, as well as her romantic interest, the chaotic Felix played by Dorkaholics darling Will Sharpe (A Real Pain, White Lotus, Giri/Haji).
Release Date: On Netflix on July 10, 2025
Synopsis: Jessica (Megan Stalter) is a New York workaholic in her mid-thirties, reeling from a broken relationship that she thought would last forever and slowly isolating everyone she knows. When every block in New York tells a story of her own bad behaviour, the only solution is to take a job in London, where she plans to live a life of solitude like a Bronte sister. But when she meets Felix (Will Sharpe) – a walking series of red flags – she finds that their unusual connection is impossible to ignore, even as it creates more problems than it solves. Now they have to ask themselves: do Americans and Brits actually speak the same language? From the creator of Girls and the producers of Love Actually, Too Much is an ex-pat rom-com for the disillusioned who wonder if true love is still possible, but sincerely hope that it is.
- Superman – IMAX Trailer
The latest trailer for the upcoming Superman film is an IMAX trailer which highlights the larger than life cinematography that deserves to be seen on the best screen possible. Some of my favorite moments noticed in this new trailer include Guy Gardner’s antagonizing words of encouragement “make a move, Big Blue” as well as getting to know what kind of person Lex Luthor is with “they chose him (presumably Superman), let them die.”
Release Date: In theaters on July 11, 2025
Synopsis: Superman embarks on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent.
- The Fantastic Four: First Steps – Final Trailer
The final trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps gives fans a closer look at the world Marvel’s First Family are living in: they’re known to the world, there’s even a television series that popularized the phrase “it’s clobbering time” much to The Thing’s chagrin. I hope the film does a good job of highlighting how intelligent Mr. Fantastic is and the amount of trust others put in him and his genius, so that when he asked about Earth’s safety and Pedro Pascal’s Mr. Fantastic utters “I don’t know” the direness of the situation is felt. Anyone else thinking of The Fast and The Furious when Vanessa Kirby’s Invisible Woman says, “family is about connecting to something bigger than yourself.”
Release Date: In theaters on July 25, 2025
Synopsis: Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world, Marvel Studios’ ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ introduces Marvel’s First Family—Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch and Ben Grimm/The Thing as they face their most daunting challenge yet.
