What’s New: I Saw The TV Glow, Strictly Confidential, Horizon, Invincible

by Neil Bui

Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, tv, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on I Saw The TV Glow, Strictly Confidential, Horizon: An American Saga, and Invincible.

  1. I Saw The TV Glow: Trailer

Justice Smith (The American Society of Magical Negroes) stars in this A24 horror film that revolves around an TV show called The Pink Opaque that feels like a blend of The Twilight Zone, Are You Afraid of the Dark?, and Scooby-Doo with a plot of young kids taking on monsters of the week each episode and described as “way too scary for most kids.” With a distinct visual identity led by a neon glow of pink, I Saw The TV Glow has caught my attention as I’m curious how the mystery of this horror flick unravels.

Release Date: In theaters May 3, 2024

Synopsis: Teenager Owen is just trying to make it through life in the suburbs when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show — a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own. In the pale glow of the television, Owen’s view of reality begins to crack.

  1.  Strictly Confidential: Trailer

Making his directorial debut with Strictly Confidential, Damian Hurley tells a story full of seduction, betrayal, and murder. And what caught my attention was the involvement of his mother, Elizabeth Hurley, in some steamy scenes in the film.

Release Date: In theaters April 5, 2024

Synopsis: Elizabeth Hurley and Georgia Lock star in a sensual thriller with a devilish twist. On the anniversary of Rebecca’s (Lauren McQueen) death, Mia (Lock) returns to the Caribbean paradise where she and her best friend shared her final days. As Mia sets out to unravel the mysterious events of her passing, old passions rise, new secrets are uncovered and Mia is pulled into a seductive world of sex, betrayal and murder.

  1.  Horizon: An American Saga: Trailer

Kevin Costner presents… Manifest Destiny the movie. It looks like it will be a visual experience of the 19th century, but I wonder how holistic it will be of the past and if it can properly reconcile the good and the bad of those times while telling a story audiences will want to come back for later this year.

Release Date: Chapter 1 in theaters on June 28, 2024; Chapter 2 in theaters on August 16, 2024

Synopsis: In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, Horizon: An American Saga explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat and tears of many.  Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Kevin Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.

  1.  Invincible Season 2 Part 2: Trailer

Just as bloody, messy, and painful. And we’re here for it. Bring on Part 2 of Season 2 of Invincible.

Release Date: On Prime video on March 14, 2024

Synopsis: Invincible is an adult animated superhero series that revolves around 17-year-old Mark Grayson, who’s just like every other guy his age — except his father is the most powerful superhero on the planet, Omni-Man. But as Mark develops powers of his own, he discovers his father’s legacy may not be as heroic as it seems.
