Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, TV, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on Nonnas, Bring Her Back, Eddington, and One Battle After Another.
- Nonnas – Main Trailer
Oof, this one hits close even though I might not be Italian. If you know me, then you know I can relate to the feeling of honoring my mother by taking a risk on myself. The last Mother’s Day film I can recall is Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, but maybe NONNAS can be the next one. It’s sure to be an emotional film as the director is my fellow Trojan Stephen Chbosky best known for writing The Perks of Being a Wallflower as well as writing and directing the 2012 film adaptation.
Release Date: On Netflix on May 9, 2025
Synopsis: After the loss of his mother, a man risks everything to honor her by opening an Italian restaurant with a group of local grandmothers as the chefs.
- Bring Her Back – Official Trailer
In their directorial followup to Talk To Me, twin brothers Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou have an evening more spine-tingling film with Bring Her Back. The VCR footage sequences alone already feel more creepy and disturbs me to my core.
Release Date: In theaters on May 30, 2025
Synopsis: A brother and sister uncover a terrifying ritual at the secluded home of their new foster mother.
- Eddington – Official Teaser
My first thought while watching the teaser for Eddington was ‘wow, a modern day western film,’ but in actuality it’s even more shocking – a story in the early days of the global pandemic. With heavyweight leads like Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal leading this A24 title, it’s a must see for this summer.
Release Date: In theaters on July 18, 2025
Synopsis: In May of 2020, a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and mayor (Pedro Pascal) sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico.
- One Battle After Another – Official Trailer
In a similar vein to how he brought ridiculousness and over-the-top humor to the high intensity environment of stockbrokers and financial fraud in The Wolf of Wall Street, Leonardo DiCaprio once again will make audiences crack up as he plays a former militant revolutionary. Somehow it feels alright to laugh in the face of his dire stakes and questionable resolve to handle it all.
Release Date: In theaters on September 26, 2025
Synopsis: A former member of a revolutionary group seeks help from other revolutionaries to find his missing daughter.
