Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, tv, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on Break Point, Sunrise, Badland Hunters, and Players.

1. Break Point: Season 2: Official Trailer

With a revived interest in the sport of tennis in my personal life these past few months, the upcoming second season of Break Point caught my eye as an opportunity to familiarize myself with the names and faces of players around the world competing to be the next household name.

Release Date: On Netflix on January 10, 2024

Synopsis: The world’s top tennis players return to the courts and set their sights on glory once again during another grueling Grand Slam season.

2. Sunrise: Trailer

It’s never as a bad time for a vampire film as Sunrise tries to prove with its January release next week. The film is about an ex-cop turned vampire having to choose between vengeance and redemption.

Release Date: In theaters and on digital/demand on January 19, 2024

Synopsis: When an ex-cop named Fallon returns to the scene of a horrific crime, the residents of a rural town soon discover that this dark visitor is really a vampire who feeds on blood and fear. After he is befriended by a kind immigrant family, the instinctive killer is faced with a choice between revenge and redemption. Guy Pearce and Alex Pettyfer star in this thrilling tale penned by Academy Award®-nominated screenwriter Ronan Blaney.

3. Badland Hunters: Official Teaser

After watching the South Korean disaster-thriller film Concrete Utopia a few months ago and finding out that its sequel was coming to Netflix, I knew I wanted to see more of this world that  Badland Hunters was going to showcase. The official teaser shows that Seoul has gone from an endless winter of sorts from Concrete Utopia into this barren desert wasteland with dangers such as rampant alligators afoot. 

Release Date: On Netflix on January 26, 2024

Synopsis: After a deadly earthquake turns Seoul into a lawless badland, a fearless huntsman springs into action to rescue a teenager abducted by a mad doctor.

4. Players: First Look Photos

Looking for this year’s Valentine’s Day romcom? Here’s an option that will be convenient from the comfort of your own home for this year’s middle of the week Wednesday Valentine’s. The film stars two recognizable primetime leads: Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) and Tom Ellis (Lucifer). What an interesting and amusing pairing of biblical connotations.

Release Date: On Netflix on February 14, 2024
