Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, tv, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on DSTLRY at San Diego Comic-Con, Bob Marley: One Love, Nun II, and the global release of TSUKIHIME – A piece of blue glass moon in 2024.

  1. DSTLRY: Announces San Diego Comic-Con Plans

Creator-owned comics and collectibles publisher DSTLLRY will make their first major convention appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2023 (SDCC 2023) and have announced their plans for the show.

At SDCC 2023, DSTLRY will host three creator-led panels and offer exclusive merch such as early access to their debut print release The Devil’s Cut as well as convention-exclusive variants by Jock and Emma Price and the debut art collectible Mominu. Find DSTLRY at their booth space (#2314) in the Exhibit Hall.

The booth will also feature signings all week with creators Mirka Andolfo, Marc Bernardin, Becky Cloonan, Jock, Jöelle Jones, Ariela Kristantina, Tula Lotay, Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, and Ram V.

    The greatest comic artists of the 21st Century collide in this once-in-a-life time event, as Tula Lotay (Barnstormers), Jock (Snow Angels), and Mirka Andolfo (Sweet Paprika) draw in real-time while answering questions about their process and world-building. The quartet will also answer questions about their books for DSTLRY, a new creator-owned publisher devoted to releasing oversized, prestige comics, including The Devil’s Cut. (They may even draw characters from their upcoming projects and offer some exclusive giveaways…). Hosted by DSTLRY Founding Editor Will Dennis.
  • DSTLRY Presents: The Scott Snyder and Jock Spotlight
    Friday, July 21 | 2:30–3:30 PM | Room 24ABC
    In the course of a decade, Scott Snyder and Jock have single-handedly resculpted comics’ greatest mythological foundations, beginning with their provocative, character-defining run on Detective Comics. The pair has since conjured some of the most horrifying and enchanting new worlds in sequential art through their collaboration on Wytches as well as their myriad other projects. Now, both pioneers enter a new era as Founding Creators at DSTLRY, a publisher ushering in the next era of creator-owned comics. Get an exclusive first look at both of their projects in this can’t-miss panel.

  1. Nun II Trailer Released

Director Michael Chaves returns to the Conjuring Universe to direct The Nun II after recently directing The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Curse of La Llorona.

  1. Tsukihime – A Piece of Glass Moon Global Release

During the Fate/Grand Order panel at Anime Expo 2023 that took place over July 4th weekend, Aniplex of America announced that TYPE-MOON’s reimagining of their classic visual novel Tsukihime, titled TSUKIHIME – A piece of blue glass moon will receive a global release in 2024. The remake will feature upgraded graphics, a full voiceover, and a rewritten narrative by the original creator Kinoko Nasu.

Fans of TYPE-MOON will quickly recognize popular characters including Arcueid Brunestud, Ciel, Shiki Tohno, and others who have been featured in MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA the popular fighting game based on Tsukihime.

Tsukihime follows the story of Shiki Tohno, a high school student who begins to see ‘lines of death’ after suffering an accident as a child. Following the death of his father, Shiki moves back home to live with his sister, Akiha Tohno, and begins to uncover dark truths lurking in his hometown. See the reimagined world of Tsukihime through Shiki’s eyes as he unravels mysterious killings and meets both fan-favorite and unexpected new characters.
