Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, TV, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on Eddington, SMURFS, Butterfly, and Alice in Borderland.

  1. Ari Aster’s Eddington – Trailer

A24 and Ari Aster are bringing a modern western to theaters with Eddington. We have Joaquin Phoenix (Joker) and Pedro Pascal (The Fantastic Four: First Steps) facing off against each other as sheriff and mayor in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Let’s see how things turn out for the town of Eddington, New Mexico. 

Release Date: In theaters on July 18, 2025

Synopsis: In May of 2020, a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and mayor (Pedro Pascal) sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico.

  1. SMURFS – Trailer

What the Smurf? Rihanna is back in blue as she steps into the role of Smurfette in this animated feature, and for her music fans, she has a new song featured in the film, “Friend of Mine”.

  1. Butterfly – Trailer

Daniel Dae Kim and Reina Hardesty are the leads playing this father-daughter duo in the graphic novel adaptation Butterfly. The action-packed series is sure to excite viewers with its espionage and spy elements.

Synopsis: Butterfly is a character-driven spy thriller that explores complex family dynamics within the treacherous world of global espionage. It’s centered on David Jung (Kim), an enigmatic, highly unpredictable former US intelligence operative living in South Korea, whose life is blown to pieces when the consequences of an impossible decision from his past come back to haunt him, and he finds himself pursued by Rebecca (Hardesty), a deadly, sociopathic young agent assigned to kill him, and Caddis, the sinister spy organization she works for.

  1. Alice in Borderland Season 3 – Teaser Trailer

It feels like a distant dream watching the second season of Alice in Borderland and watching Arisu/Alice along with Usagi and their companions take on the face card games and uncover the secrets of Borderland. Season 2 had ended with a tease of the joker card, but so fans have been eagerly awaiting confirmation of a continuation and now we have a trailer and release date for Season 3. 

Release Date: On Netflix on September 25, 2025

Synopsis: After Usagi is abducted and left unconscious by a mysterious scholar obsessed with the afterlife, Alice returns to the perilous “Borderland” to save her. Teaming up with new players, they must face the yet-unseen “Joker” stage in a desperate bid to find a way back to their original world.
