Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, TV, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on Frankenstein, Last Days, Twisted Wonderland, and Left-Handed Girl.
- Frankenstein – Trailer
In this adaptation of this story of Frankenstein’s monster, Guilermo del Toro focuses on the creature played by Jacob Elordi and its vengeful quest against its creator Victor Frankenstein played by Oscar Isaac.
Release Date: In select theaters on October 17, 2024 and on Netflix on November 7, 2025
Synopsis: Guillermo del Toro adapts Mary Shelley’s classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.
- Justin Lin’s Last Days – Trailer
While the premise of Justin Lin’s Last Days comes with the potential controversy of romanticizing John Allen Chau and his visit to the secluded tribe of North Sentinel Island as a Christian missionary, I’m optimistic that audiences will have a protagonist to root for in the detective who uncovers his life-threatening mission. Hopefully, the takeaway of the film will be that the Sentinelese tribe should be left alone and respected.
Release Date: In theaters on October 24, 2025
Synopsis: Based on a true story, Justin Lin’s Last Days follows 26-year-old John Allen Chau’s journey to fulfill his life’s mission. He embarks on a dangerous adventure across the globe to share his faith with the isolated tribe of North Sentinel Island, while a detective from the Andaman Islands races to stop him before he does harm to himself or the tribe.
- Twisted Wonderland – Trailer
Based on the manga adaptation of the Japanese mobile gacha game, Twisted Wonderland follows a similar premise with the main character being transported to a magical world and the magical training school, Night Raven College. With 4.8 million downloads in Japan and 6 million worldwide as of August 2025, I’m certain the franchise has preexisting fandom that will be this series’ primary audience.
Release Date: On Disney+ and Hulu on October 29, 2025
Synopsis: In the enchanted world of Twisted-Wonderland, seven legendary figures known as the Great Seven have been immortalized. Based on seven iconic Disney Villains: the Queen of Hearts, the King of Beasts (Scar), the Sea Witch (Ursula), the Sorcerer of the Sands (Jafar), the Fairest Queen (Evil Queen), the King of the Underworld (Hades), and the ThornFairy (Maleficent), the acts of these individuals would eventually inspire the creation of seven magical dormitories at Night Raven College – an elite academy for budding mages.
Unaware of any of this, Yuken Enma, an ordinary high school student from Tokyo, suddenly finds himself transported to Night Raven College and immediately begins alienating its residents. Unable to wield magic, unsure of the customs, and stunned by the new reality he finds himself in, Yuken is forced to navigate this strange new world, searching for a way back home. Constantly finding himself tangled up in adventures with his troublemaking new classmates, Ace and Deuce, will Yuken be able to find his way home before incurring the wrath of the Rose-Red Tyrant – Riddle Rosehearts?
- Left-Handed Girl – Trailer
From the producers of The Florida Project (including Anora’s director Sean Baker), comes Left-Handed Girl, a similarly warm, endearing, and vulnerable story set in Taipei with challenges many of us can relate to including the navigation of family dynamics and cultural values.
Release Date: In select theaters on November 14, 2025 and on Netflix on November 28, 2025
Synopsis: A single mother and her two daughters return to Taipei after several years of living in the countryside to open a stand at a buzzing night market. Each in their way will have to adapt to this new environment to make ends meet and maintain the family unity. But when their traditional grandfather forbids his youngest left-handed granddaughter from using her “devil hand,” generations of family secrets begin to unravel.
