Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, TV, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on The Hawk, The East Palace, 72 Hours, and Her Private Hell.
- The Hawk – Teaser
After Happy Gilmore 2 last summer, it seems like Netflix wants to continue catering to the appetite for sports comedies, but specifically the sport of golf. Is there a bit here about golf being a joke? Kidding! This time, audiences can enjoy the laughs in a series instead of a sequel film, so get ready to laugh a lot at Will Ferrell.
Release Date: On Netflix on July 16, 2026
Synopsis: Lonnie Hawkins, (Will Ferrell) 2004’s number one golfer, struggles on the back nine of his career to recapture his magic. His body says retire, but his heart says he’s not done yet. His ex-wife and his son Lance, golf’s new golden boy, know he’s through. But with one more major to win to complete golf’s Grand Slam, Lonnie refuses to believe he’s anything other than one stroke away from the greatest comeback in golf history.
- The East Palace – Trailer
The East Palace looks to be the series that fills my appetite for Korean mystery-horror after blazing through Gyeongseong Creature in 2024, but set in a period drama which is part of Korean entertainment I haven’t dived into as much. The series stars Nam Joo-hyuk (Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo), Roh Yoon-seo (Crash Course in Romance, Our Blues, 20th Century Girl), and Cho Seung-woo (The King’s Doctor, Divorce Attorney Shin).
Release Date: On Netflix on July 17, 2026
Synopsis: A man who walks the spirit world and a court lady who hears the dead enter the East Palace by the king’s orders—can they unravel its dark secrets?
- 72 Hours – Trailer
When it comes to the upcoming bro comedy 72 Hours, I wonder if I’ll feel more connected to Kevin Hart as the 40 year old on a bachelor party or the twenty-somethings which includes Mason Gooding (Love, Victor) and Saturday Night Live cast members Marcello Hernández, Ben Marshall, and Kam Patterson. Hopefully if I feel old while watching it, I’ll have a lot of laughs along the way.
Release Date: On Netflix on July 24, 2026
Synopsis: A forty-year-old executive hopes to save his flailing career by joining a group of twenty-somethings on a wild three-day bachelor party, after he’s inadvertently added to their group text.
- Her Private Hell – Trailer
Coming out of the Cannes Film Festival is Her Private Hell, by Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive). The film stars our iconic new generation scream queen Sophie Thatcher (Heretic), wasian himbo Charles Melton (BEEF, Warfare), Kristine Froseth (Looking for Alaska), Havana Rose Liu (Tuner), and Diego Calva (Babylon).
Release Date: In theaters on July 24, 2026
Synopsis: When a mysterious mist engulfs a futuristic metropolis, unleashing a deadly and elusive entity, a troubled young woman searches for her father. Her quest collides with an American GI on a harrowing odyssey to rescue his daughter from hell.
