What’s New: Suicide Squad Isekai, The Crow, Atlas, The Acolyte

by Neil Bui

Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, tv, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on Suicide Squad Isekai, The Crow, Atlas, and The Acolyte.

  1. Suicide Squad Isekai: Trailer 3

Suicide Squad Isekai is an upcoming original anime series collaboration between Warner Bros. Japan and WIT Studio (Attack on Titan, Spy × Family).

Release Date: 2024 (Further details TBA)

Synopsis: Amanda Waller has assembled a group of notorious criminals for a mission: Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Peacemaker, Clayface, and King Shark. These villains are sent into an otherworldly realm, a world of swords and magic where orcs rampage and dragons rule the skies—an “ISEKAI”

  1. The Crow: Trailer

Bill Skarsgård brings his specific flavor of darkness from past roles in films such as John Wick: Chapter 4 and the It films to become the resurrected Crow. While he wouldn’t be the first to lead a film based on the comic book series of the same name, I have a feeling his portrayal will be iconic for this generation of moviegoers.

Release Date: In theaters on June 7, 2024

Synopsis: Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.

  1. Atlas: Teaser Trailer

With the ongoing developments in real life artificial intelligence technology, it should be easy to understand and relate to some level of distrust in AI. In Atlas, J. Lo plays into this attitude and that plot sets her up to challenge her beliefs as she must trust in AI in order to save us from it.

Release Date: On Netflix on May 24, 2024

Synopsis: Atlas Shepherd (Jennifer Lopez), a brilliant but misanthropic data analyst with a deep distrust of artificial intelligence, joins a mission to capture a renegade robot with whom she shares a mysterious past. But when plans go awry, her only hope of saving the future of humanity from AI is to trust it.

  1. The Acolyte: Trailer

Star Wars dorks have it good with hit series after hit series. The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, Ahsoka, and now The Acolyte. Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game) plays a Jedi Master in this new series set 100 years before Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

Release Date: First two episodes premiere on Disney+ on June 4, 2024

Synopsis: In Star Wars: The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems….
