Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, TV, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on Tyler Perry’s Straw, KPop Demon Hunters, Bride Hard, and Squid Game Season 3.
- Tyler Perry’s Straw – Trailer
Tyler Perry’s Straw feels like an intense emotional roller coaster as we find a mother trying to do whatever it takes to take care of her daughter, in the face of a world that is not easy to navigate with both dangerous threats like robbers and an unforgiving system, which will push her to seemingly irreversible decisions.
Release Date: On Netflix on June 6, 2025
Synopsis: A single mother’s world unravels in chaos as her day goes from bad to worse to catastrophic as she struggles to care for her ill daughter. Pushed to the brink by a world that seems indifferent to her existence, she’s forced to confront impossible choices in a society that offers her no safety net.
- KPop Demon Hunters – Trailer
Combine the supernatural elements of a story centered around a trio of demon hunters along with the musical sensations of K-pop, and boom you have the upcoming animated film KPop Demon Hunters. What’s not to love? Especially with a feature track performed by TWICE members Jihyo (BIAS!), Chaeyoung (BIAS WRECKER!), and Jeongyeon.
Release Date: On Netflix on June 20, 2025
Synopsis: When they aren’t selling out stadiums, Kpop superstars Rumi, Mira and Zoey use their secret identities as badass demon hunters to protect their fans from an ever-present supernatural threat. Together, they must face their biggest enemy yet – an irresistible rival boy band of demons in disguise.
- Bride Hard – Trailer
Summer movies aren’t just about the action blockbusters, but also about having a good time laughing which is what I’m expecting from Rebel Wilson and the cast of Bride Hard. And a dorky hello to television’s first Green Arrow, Justin Hartley.
Release Date: In theaters on June 20, 2025
Synopsis: Sam (Rebel Wilson) is a world-class secret agent… and a pretty terrible maid of honor. After blowing off bridal duties for an international spy mission, she’s demoted to bridesmaid at her childhood best friend’s wedding. What should’ve been a weekend of reconnecting and celebration turns into a five-star death trap when armed mercenaries crash the big day. Sam’s the only one who can save the bride, and hopefully earn back the trust she lost along the way. Dodging bullets and trying not to ruin the floral arrangements, Sam takes on the ultimate wedding crasher, realizing that sometimes the toughest mission isn’t taking down the bad guys, but showing up for the people who matter.
- Squid Game: Season 3 – Teaser
Thank you Netflix for not making us wait any longer for the third season of Squid Game, as we just started finished the second season between this past Christmas and New Year. It’s pretty much confirmed that despite failing his rebellion, Gi-hun and his group will be forced to continue playing the games. Gotta hand it to the Front Man for being consistent with his running of the games. And as the teaser ends with the cries of a baby, we can only hope for a happy ending for our characters by the end of this season.
Release Date: On Netflix on June 27, 2025
Synopsis: A failed rebellion, the death of a friend, and a secret betrayal. Picking up in the aftermath of Season 2’s bloody cliffhanger, the third and final season of Netflix’s most popular series finds Gi-hun, a.k.a. Player 456, at his lowest point yet. But the Squid Game stops for no one, so Gi-hun will be forced to make some important choices in the face of overwhelming despair as he and the surviving players are thrust into deadlier games that test everyone’s resolve. With each round, their choices lead to increasingly grave consequences. Meanwhile, In-ho resumes his role as Front Man to welcome the mysterious VIPs, and his brother Jun-ho continues his search for the elusive island, unaware there’s a traitor in their midst. Will Gi-hun make the right decisions, or will Front Man finally break his spirit?
