What’s New: Warrior King, Shaky Shivers, The Continental, All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt

Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, tv, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on trailers for Warrior King, Shaky Shivers, The Continental, and All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt.

  1. Warrior King: New Clip

Premiere Date: In theaters on August 25

Synopsis: This Chinese animated epic fantasy is based on the true story of King Gesar, born to a divine lineage and destined to become a great hero and ruler. As a young man, the future king grew up exiled in a realm overrun by menacing demons and monsters. When evil forces threaten his home, he embarks on a heroic journey to save his people and fulfill his destiny as a legendary leader.

The story of Gesar is considered one of Central Asia’s literary classics and was passed down in oral tradition for some 1,000 years, as well as literary, poetic and stage play versions. Its Tibetan iteration may now be the most prominent, and certainly one of the longest, running to over 100 volumes and a million verses, according to some calculations. 

  1. Shaky Shivers: Official Trailer

Premiere Date: In theaters on September 21

Synopsis: From director Sung Kang (star of Fast X), after finding herself bitten by a mysterious animal, Lucy becomes convinced that she will transform into a fearsome werewolf. Joined by her best friend Karen, the two embark on a campy adventure filled with magic and mayhem, as they look to do battle with a throat-slashing creature ripped right out of an 80s horror movie.

  1. The Continental: From the World of John Wick: Official Trailer

Premiere Date:

  • Night 1: Friday, September 22, 2023
  • Night 2: Friday, September 29, 2023
  • Night 3: Friday, October 6, 2023

Synopsis: The three-part event will explore the origin behind the iconic hotel-for-assassins centerpiece of the John Wick universe through the eyes and actions of a young Winston Scott, as he’s dragged into the Hell-scape of 1970s New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind. Winston charts a deadly course through the hotel’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing attempt to seize the hotel where he will eventually take his future throne.  

  1. All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt: Official Trailer

Premiere Date: In theaters this fall, release date coming soon

Synopsis: A lyrical, decades-spanning exploration across a woman’s life in Mississippi, the feature debut from award-winning poet, photographer and filmmaker Raven Jackson is a haunting and richly layered portrait, a beautiful ode to the generations of people and places that shape us.
