E! is partnering with NBC News Studios and Unanimous Media, along with executive producer Stephen Curry, to present a two-night special event titled Black Pop: Celebrating the Power of Black Culture. Narrated by La La Anthony, this four-part special pays homage to the pivotal contributions of Black culture across music, television, sports, and film. Premiering on June 19 with back-to-back episodes, the event explores the lasting impact and undeniable influence of Black excellence on popular culture.

Honoring Black Culture:

Black Pop: Celebrating the Power of Black Culture delves into the profound influence of Black culture and its enduring legacy. Through music, television, sports, and film, the special showcases the perseverance, excellence, and transformative power that have shaped the cultural landscape. From the gospel roots of Mahalia Jackson to the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, from fashion to trailblazing television personalities like Diahann Carroll and Oprah Winfrey, from sports legends like Sugar Ray Leonard and Laila Ali to the evolution of Black cinema, each episode celebrates the indelible mark left by Black artists and visionaries.

An All-Star Lineup:

The special features a star-studded roster of celebrities sharing their personal stories and experiences. Erika Alexander, Laila Ali, Jabari Banks, Da Brat, Tamar Braxton, Erica Campbell, Nick Cannon, Misty Copeland, Laverne Cox, Stephen Curry, Victor Cruz, Dapper Dan, Dominique Dawes, D-Nice, Cedric the Entertainer, and many others contribute their insights and reflections on their achievements in music, television, sports, and film. With their collective voices, they illuminate the impact of Black culture and highlight pivotal moments in pop culture history.

“Black Pop: Sports” (Premieres June 20 at 8 p.m. ET/PT): Highlighting the indelible impact of Black athletes on pop culture, this episode showcases legends such as Stephen Curry, Sugar Ray Leonard, Laila Ali, and Allyson Felix. From breaking barriers to setting trends and negotiating deals, Black athletes have not only shaped American culture but have also been instrumental in shifting it.

“Black Pop: Film” (Premieres June 20 at 9 p.m. ET/PT): Examining the contribution of Black excellence to American cinema, this episode pays tribute to cinematic giants like Will Packer and groundbreaking films such as “Waiting to Exhale,” “Set It Off,” “Friday,” and “Get Out.” It underscores the enduring impact of Black storytelling on the big screen, provoking laughter, thought, and critical conversations.
