Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, TV, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on Architecton, Weapons, Peacemaker Season 2, and Mortal Kombat II.
- Architecton – Trailer
If watching The Brutalist planted a seed of interest in architecture within you, then perhaps the documentary Architecton is exactly what you need to dive deeper into this field. The film brings grand, larger than life cinematography that visually magnifies as well as hypnotically entrances your attention as the dialogue and contents of the film will not only educate you on architecture but take into the thoughts and feelings of its professionals.
Release Date: In theaters on August 1, 2025
Synopsis: An extraordinary journey through the material that makes up our habitat: concrete, and its ancestor, stone. Filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky (Gunda, Aquarela) raises a fundamental question: how do we inhabit the world of tomorrow?
- Weapons – Trailer
Coming from the director of Barbarian is Weapons, another horror film with a creepy premise that grips us tightly despite however uncomfortable we may feel, especially as we wonder if we should be worried about the children or worried by the children.
Release Date: In theaters on August 8, 2025
Synopsis: When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanishes on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.
- Peacemaker: Season 2 – Teaser
Peacemaker and his merry gang of dogooders are back! And he’s back with a (seemingly) genuine desire to be a hero. But at the same time, he’ll have to answer for having killed Flag Jr. in The Suicide Squad. From the looks of the trailer, he might not have the resolve to handle things in this reality and will rely on a dimensional rift as a form of escape. Has he learned nothing from the events of Superman?
Release Date: On HBO Max on August 21, 2025
Synopsis: Peacemaker discovers an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be. But this discovery also forces him to face his traumatic past and take the future into his own hands.
- Mortal Kombat II – Trailer
Karl Urban lives up to the Johnny Cage energy and expectations from fans, or at least to me he does. What do you think? Has the wait been worth it? I’m very curious how he’ll level up to match champions with Transformer arms and lightning bolts. But then again, this is Butcher we’re talking about, and he was pretty tough without Compound V.
Release Date: In theaters on October 24, 2025
Synopsis: This time, the fan favorite champions—now joined by Johnny Cage himself—are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.
