by Neil Bui

Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, tv, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on Pokémon Concierge, The Brothers Sun, Dune: Part Two, and Bridgerton Season Two.

  1. Pokémon Concierge: New Stills

The new stills for the upcoming stop-motion animation series Pokémon Concierge highlights the picturesque qualities of the Pokémon Resort as well as the Pokémon guests and staff members such as Haru (voiced by Karen Fukuhara).

  1. The Brothers Sun: Official Trailer & Making of

The Brothers Sun trailer and new behind the scenes video really highlight the action and family drama of the series. The action feels as exciting as a Fast and Furious film while being as grounded but epic like in Warrior. At the same time, with its main character being brothers who live very different lives, family is at the heart of this story while also pointing a light on the varied experiences within immigrant families.

Release Date: On Netflix on January 4, 2024

Synopsis: When the head of a powerful Taiwanese triad is shot by a mysterious assassin, his eldest son, legendary killer Charles “Chairleg” Sun (Justin Chien) heads to Los Angeles to protect his mother, Eileen (Michelle Yeoh), and his naive younger brother, Bruce (Sam Song Li) — who’s been completely sheltered from the truth of his family until now. But as Taipei’s deadliest societies and a new rising faction go head-to-head for dominance — Charles, Bruce and their mother must heal the wounds caused by their separation and figure out what    brotherhood and family truly mean before one of their countless enemies kills them all.

  1. Dune: Part Two: Trailer #3

The highlights from the latest trailer for Dune for me is the focus on Austin Butler’s character being this psychotic killer that Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet, will have to stand up against as well as the budding bond between Paul and Zendaya’s character, Chani.

Release Date: In theaters on March 1, 2024

Synopsis: “Dune: Part Two” will explore the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a path of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.

  1. Bridgerton Season 3: Date Announcement

In a date announcement video from Netflix, with voiceover by Lady Whistledown herself, which captures and highlights the passionate anticipation from fans for any information on the new season, tying in fan tweets, comments from various social media platforms, and TikTok videos, culminating in the reveal of the series’ return dates.

Release Date: On Netflix, Part 1 (301-304) on May 16, 2024 and Part 2 (305-308) on June 13, 2024

Synopsis: From Shondaland and new showrunner, Jess Brownell, Bridgerton is back for its third season and finds Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. However, she has decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters. But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly. Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him for being his true self, has now given him the cold shoulder. Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season. But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly. Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise (Claudia Jessie), who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence in the ‘ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret.
