What’s New: The Brothers Sun, Night Swim, LIFT, Ragna Crimson: Second Cour

by Neil Bui

Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, tv, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on The Brothers Sun, Night Swim, LIFT, and Ragna Crimson: Second Cour.

  1. The Brothers Sun: Behind the Scenes of Michelle Yeoh as Mama Sun

With the release of The Brothers Sun this week, Netflix has released a new behind the scenes video that features the cast and crew speaking on the impact of having Michelle Yeoh on the set as the series matriarch.

Release Date: On Netflix on January 4, 2024

Synopsis: When the head of a powerful Taiwanese triad is shot by a mysterious assassin, his eldest son, legendary killer Charles “Chairleg” Sun (Justin Chien) heads to Los Angeles to protect his mother, Eileen (Michelle Yeoh), and his naive younger brother, Bruce (Sam Song Li) — who’s been completely sheltered from the truth of his family until now. But as Taipei’s deadliest societies and a new rising faction go head-to-head for dominance — Charles, Bruce and their mother must heal the wounds caused by their separation and figure out what    brotherhood and family truly mean before one of their countless enemies kills them all.

  1. Night Swim: A Look Inside Featurette

Night Swim looks to be the first horror movie of 2024 with its release for this Friday. With producer credits going to two masters of the genre James Wan (Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring) and Jason Blum (Halloween, The Black Phone, The Invisible Man), the film is all but guaranteed to scare moviegoers.

Release Date: In theaters January 5, 2024

Synopsis: Based on the acclaimed 2014 short film by Rod Blackhurst and Bryce McGuire, the film stars Wyatt Russell (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) as Ray Waller, a former major league baseball player forced into early retirement by a degenerative illness, who moves into a new home with his concerned wife Eve (Oscar® nominee Kerry Condon, The Banshees of Inisherin), teenage daughter Izzy (Amélie Hoeferle, this fall’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) and young son Elliot (Gavin Warren, Fear the Walking Dead).

Secretly hoping, against the odds, to return to pro ball, Ray persuades Eve that the new home’s shimmering backyard swimming pool will be fun for the kids and provide physical therapy for him. But a dark secret in the home’s past will unleash a malevolent force that will drag the family under, into the depths of inescapable terror.

  1. LIFT: Final Trailer

The world cannot get enough of Kevin Hart or at least that’s the perception I get as he continues to headline films like LIFT. And with an ensemble cast like this, I’m sure viewers looking for more than just Kevin Hart will have something to look forward to.

Release Date: On Netflix on January 12, 2024

Synopsis: An international heist crew, led by Cyrus Whitaker (Kevin Hart), races to lift $500 million in gold from a passenger plane at 40,000 feet.

  1. Ragna Crimson: Second Cour PV (Trailer 5)

A new trailer has been released for the second season of Ragna Crimson which debuts on January 13. The series has attracted many fans around the world outside of Japan resulting in winning first place weekly on overseas anime ranking sites for two consecutive weeks.
