Dragon Ball Super: Great Addition to a Beloved Franchise

by Lethbridge College

Dragon Ball Super is the latest installment in the Dragon Ball franchise, created by Akira Toriyama. It follows the events of the original Dragon Ball series, Dragon Ball Z, and the movies that came after it. Dragon Ball Super is a continuation of the story, set several years after the defeat of the powerful villain, Majin Buu.

The series follows the story of Goku, the main protagonist, and his friends as they protect the earth from various threats. The story begins with Beerus, the God of Destruction, awakening from his slumber to search for the Super Saiyan God. He encounters Goku and the two engage in a battle that almost destroys the universe. However, Goku eventually manages to awaken the Super Saiyan God and defeats Beerus, becoming his ally.

Kalib Thunderchief, a long-time fan since the age of 7 years old could not be more thrilled to see his favorite character back on the screen.

Goku is the main protagonist and has been a beloved character since the original series. He is the ultimate underdog, always pushing himself to become stronger, and never giving up in the face of adversity. His character is incredibly likable because he has a great sense of humor.

The story introduces new villains, such as Frieza’s return and the introduction of the multiverse concept. This leads to the introduction of new characters from different universes, including Jiren, Hit, and the other members of the Pride Troopers. The series also explores the lore and mythology of the Dragon Ball universe, delving deeper into the concept of the gods and their roles in the multiverse.

One of the key features of Dragon Ball Super is its animation. The series introduces a new animation style that is different from the traditional animation used in the previous series. The animation is more fluid and dynamic, and it complements the high-paced action sequences of the series. The use of vibrant colors and special effects also makes the series visually appealing.

Dragon Ball Super expands on the character development of its cast. While the series maintains its trademark humor and action, it also explores the emotions and relationships between characters. This is particularly evident in the relationships between Goku and his family, such as his wife Chi-Chi and his sons Gohan and Goten. The series explores the bond between Vegeta and his family, as well as his relationship with his rival, Goku.

The series also introduces new concepts, such as the Tournament of Power, where the strongest fighters from different universes compete to see which universe will survive. This arc provides a lot of opportunities for character development and showcases the strengths and weaknesses of the different characters. The stakes are quite high, with the fate of the multiverse at stake, making it one of the most thrilling arcs in the series.

However, some fans have criticized the series for its pacing issues, particularly during the early episodes, where the story is slow to develop. The series introduces some plot holes and inconsistencies, which can be frustrating for fans who have followed the franchise for a long time.

In conclusion, Dragon Ball Super is a great addition to the Dragon Ball franchise. It expands on the lore and mythology of the universe, introduces new characters and concepts, and provides some of the most thrilling moments in the franchise. While it has its flaws, it is still an enjoyable watch for fans of the series and newcomers alike.
