Review: ‘Fallout 4’ 6 Years Later

by Lethbridge College

The colors of the world in Fallout 4 are absolutely stunning. Crisp and clean, you can always tell what environment you are in. The details in the game are immense, ranging from every leaf on the tree to every blade of grass and even perfect physics when it comes to water. The design of the characters are also very beautiful with each character being unique in their own way, from facial structure down to how they tie their shoelace.

Game Design Rating: 9/10

The story of Fallout 4 is one of if not the best story in any game I have ever played. The game centers around the father of a family that gets word of an incoming nuclear missile. They are escorted to a fallout shelter and placed in a cryo chamber to be frozen until the end of the nuclear war… or so they think. A strange man then opens the chamber to take your baby from your wife’s hands while you are frozen and shoots her as you fall back asleep. When you wake up you are in a panic as to what has just happened, you swear vengeance and to find your son. And so, you set out into the nuclear wasteland on a mission to find your son. While on your travels through the Appalachian wilderness you come across several fun companions that will always have your back and follow you into the darkest of places.

Story Rating: 10/10

The open world in the game lets you fully explore Appalachia. If the main story is starting to bore you fear not because you can indulge in hundreds… Yes, hundreds of side quests, each side quest has a unique reward for the player, from unlocking new companions to earning a variety of legendary gear to take down those pesky death claws. Each side quest is very unique and serves as a completely new story to take your mind off the main tragedy-stricken story. Once you’ve done all your exploration for the day you can unwind at your camp. The game has a cool mechanic where you can get materials from the forest and build your own unique house with many features. If you ever get lonely you can join a settlement and have some neighbors to keep you company on those lonely Appalachian nights.

Free Roam Rating: 9/10

Yes, I know every Fallout game has an amazing soundtrack but this one is no different. Fallout 4 has perhaps the best soundtrack of all time. Although the songs were made in the 2010s they sound just like 40s trail music and it works so well because every song is themed around nuclear war and making the best out of a bad situation.

Soundtrack Rating: 8/10

The customization in Fallout 4 is nothing less than perfection with all pieces of gear being unique. You can edit gear at the workstation and put one of hundreds of skins on it to stand out no matter what. Fallout 4 will reward the hard working players with exclusive, over the top skins for killing the biggest and baddest monsters.

Customization Rating: 8.5/10

Overall, Fallout 4 is an absolute gem and I can’t recommend it enough, from the open world to free roaming, the main story is immaculate for those looking to immerse themselves in an addicting video game.

Overall: 9.3/10

Fallout 4 is set in the Boston Commonwealth, not Appalachia, does anyone proofread your articles? Have some standards. The Armour Cusromisation doesn’t have a Skins system either, were you even playing Fallout 4?
