HBO Max’s House Party: First Look at A Good Time

by Neil Bui

Warner Bros. has released the first images of the upcoming remake House Party.

The original teen hip-hop comedy was released in 1990 and was director Reginald Hudlin’s first feature-length film. However, comic book fans may also know Hudlin for his time as a writer for the Black Panther comics from 2005 to 2008, which includes the acclaimed “Bride of the Panther” storyline which saw Storm from the X-Men marry the King of Wakanda.

This time around though, the film will be directed by CALMATIC (Charles Kidd II), a filmmaker known for his work on music videos and commercials. He garnered recognition in 2019 for directing the video for “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, which went on to win the 2019 MTV Video Music Award for Best Direction and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Music Video of the Year.

The screenplay is written by Jamal Olori and Atlanta’s Stephen Glover. Tosin Cole, Jacob Latimore, Karen Obilom, and DC Young Fly star in the film. LeBron James and Maverick Carter are producing through their SpringHill Company. The company’s Spencer Beighley and Jamal Henderson are executive producers alongside Reginald Hudlin, older brother Warrington Hudlin, and Gretel Twombly.

Catch House Party on HBO Max starting July 28, 2022.
