What’s New: Ricky Stanicky, Road House, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Tuesday

by Neil Bui

Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, tv, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on Ricky Stanicky, Road House, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and Tuesday.

  1. Ricky Stanicky: Official Trailer

After cracking us up with Peacemaker, John Cena is guaranteed to make us roll on the floor laughing in the upcoming film Ricky Stanicky. With such a ridiculous premise, what more can we ask for in this bro comedy flick.

Release Date: On Prime Video on March 7, 2024

Synopsis: When three childhood best friends pull a prank gone wrong, they invent the imaginary Ricky Stanicky to get them out of trouble! Twenty years after creating this ‘friend,’ Dean, JT, and Wes (Zac Efron, Andrew Santino, and Jermaine Fowler) still use the nonexistent Ricky as a handy alibi for their immature behavior. When their spouses and partners get suspicious and demand to finally meet the fabled Mr. Stanicky, the guilty trio decide to hire washed-up actor and raunchy celebrity impersonator “Rock Hard” Rod (John Cena) to bring him to life. But when Rod takes his role of a lifetime too far, they begin to wish they’d never invented Ricky in the first place.

  1. Road House: Trailer Release

In this remake for a film I’ve never seen before or heard of, the trailer opens with Jake Gyllenhaal slapping the daylights out of a group eager to fight, while exchanging banter like “is there a hospital nearby?” Sounds like the comedic macho era of the 80s I was born after, which is somewhat appropriately fitting for Conor McGregor’s acting debut.

Release Date: On Prime Video on March 21, 2024

Synopsis: In this adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the 80s cult classic, ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.

  1. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: Trailer

Is there such a thing as too much Henry? Absolutely not. I’m here for this Henry Cavill and Henry Golding teamup! And there’s other cast members that Dorkaholics will recognize: Alan Ritchson (Titans, Smallville, Blue Mountain State, Reacher) as well as Eiza González (Godzilla vs. Kong, Mr. & Mrs. Smith).

Release Date: In theaters on April 19, 2024

Synopsis: Based upon recently declassified files of the British War Department and inspired by true events, THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE is an action-comedy that tells the story of the first-ever special forces organization formed during WWII by UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and a small group of military officials including author Ian Fleming. The top-secret combat unit, composed of a motley crew of rogues and mavericks, goes on a daring mission against the Nazis using entirely unconventional and utterly “ungentlemanly” fighting techniques. Ultimately their audacious approach changed the course of the war and laid the foundation for the British SAS and modern Black Ops warfare.

  1. Tuesday: Official Trailer

If Everything Everywhere All At Once used the multiverse to present immigrant struggles as well as addressing generational trauma, then Tuesday is going to be using a talking parrot to help us address the cruelty of death and loss as well as moving forward from it.

Release Date: TBA

Synopsis: A mother and her teenage daughter must confront Death when it arrives in the form of an astonishing talking bird. From debut filmmaker Daina O. Pusić, Tuesday is a heart-rending fairy tale about the echoes of loss and finding resilience in the unexpected.
