What’s New: 3 Body Problem, Strictly Confidential, I Saw The TV Glow, Sing Sing

by Neil Bui

Pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is Dorkaholics’ way to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, tv, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on 3 Body Problem, Strictly Confidential, I Saw The TV Glow, and Sing Sing

  1. 3 Body Problem: Final Trailer

The final trailer for 3 Body Problem frames the supernatural phenomena of the film as what happens when consciousness ends in one world only to continue on in other worlds. But the grandness of the scenes really drives home the point that this will be a global story which excites me to see how the film will incorporate a wide range of experiences and character journeys, especially with its ensemble cast.

Release Date: On Netflix on March 21, 2024

Synopsis: A young woman’s fateful decision in 1960s China reverberates across space and time into the present day. When the laws of nature inexplicably unravel before their eyes, a close-knit group of brilliant scientists join forces with an unorthodox detective to confront the greatest threat in humanity’s history. The series stars (in alpha order) Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Rosalind Chao, Liam Cunningham, Eiza González, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Zine Tseng, Saamer Usmani, Benedict Wong and Jonathan Pryce.

  1. Strictly Confidential: A Special Dinner Clip

A dinner scene with a majority of the cast of Strictly Confidential showcases the drama and dialogue of the film, all without the alarming risque elements of the last clip shared.

Release Date: In theaters on April 5, 2024

Synopsis: Elizabeth Hurley and Georgia Lock star in a sensual thriller with a devilish twist. On the anniversary of Rebecca’s (Lauren McQueen) death, Mia (Lock) returns to the Caribbean paradise where she and her best friend shared her final days. As Mia sets out to unravel the mysterious events of her passing, old passions rise, new secrets are uncovered and Mia is pulled into a seductive world of sex, betrayal and murder.

  1. I Saw The TV Glow: First Song from the Original Soundtrack

The first song from the original soundtrack for I Saw The TV Glow is ‘Anthems For A Seventeen Year-Old Girl’ by yeule. The visuals play off of the purple neon that is prominently featured in the film’s promotional materials and incorporates images of childhood.

Release Date: In theaters on May 3, 2024 & Original Soundtrack Album arrives May 10, 2024

Synopsis: Teenager Owen is just trying to make it through life in the suburbs when his classmate introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show — a vision of a supernatural world beneath their own. In the pale glow of the television, Owen’s view of reality begins to crack.

  1. Sing Sing: Trailer

A24 picked up Sing Sing at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival where it premiered in the Special Presentations program. If A24 is known for delivering work that no one knew they were looking for (as has been my personal experience), then Sing Sing delivers on that with an ensemble cast of real-life formerly incarcerated men who were alumni of the Rehabilitation Through the Arts programs during the incarceration. The trailer alone highlights humanity as well as art’s ability to transform people.

Release Date: In theaters July 2024

Synopsis: Divine G (Colman Domingo), imprisoned at Sing Sing for a crime he didn’t commit, finds purpose by acting in a theater group alongside other incarcerated men, including a wary newcomer (Clarence Maclin), in this stirring true story of resilience, humanity, and the transformative power of art, starring an unforgettable ensemble cast of formerly incarcerated actors.
