What’s New: JUNG_E, Stephen Curry: Underrated, #YouNetflix

The world of pop culture is a never-ending world of updates, teases, trailers, and hopefully releases. What’s New Wednesday is a Dorkaholics segment meant to keep us all up to date with what’s new across comics, tv, film, games, and more! This week, the focus is on upcoming Netflix releases and a Stephen Curry documentary on Apple TV.

  1. JUNG_E: Trailer for Korean Sci-Fi Film on Netflix

Netflix has a new science fiction film out later this month on January 20. The film is JUNG_E and takes place in a distant future with a deserted planet Earth as a result of climate change, and a majority of mankind has relocated to a shelter in space, where a civil war is underway.

Kim Hyun-joo plays Yun Jung-Yi, a heroic soldier who leaves for a mission and shares a heartfelt goodbye with her daughter but returns in a vegetative state. She is reborn as an artificial intelligence combat robot JUNG_E as a result of brain cloning and war simulations at a laboratory. Her daughter, Yun Seo-hyun played by Kang Soo-youn, is now older than her and heading up the brain cloning research as a project leader.

The film is directed by Yeon Sang-ho, known for the Netflix series Hellbound and film Train to Busan, where he made his mark in redefining the genre of Korean zombies. About JUNG_E, he said “with the topic of A.I., I want to create a work that combines the science fiction genre’s spectacular visual aesthetics and a very relatable topic that is at the core of humans.”

JUNG_E premieres on January 20, 2023.

  1. Stephen Curry: Underrated Premiering at Sundance 2023

Apple TV’s upcoming documentary Stephen Curry: Underrated will be having its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. The film is directed by award-winning filmmaker Peter Nicks and tells the inspiring story of Curry’s journey from “undersized college player to four-time NBA champion.”

This year’s Sundance Film Festival takes place Thu, Jan 19, 2023 – Sun, Jan 29, 2023.

  1. YOU: Season 4 Part 1 Trailer Released

The new season of YOU takes us to London as Joe yet again seeks to escape his bloodied past. From the trailer for Season 4, Part 1, the interesting focus of this season is that we find Joe now the prey in danger of a predator, a reversal of what we’ve seen in the past three seasons with him as the more dangerous force.

YOU season 4 part 1 launches exclusively on Netflix February 9th, with Part 2 out a month later on March 9th.

About YOU Season 4: After his previous life went up in flames, Joe Goldberg has fled to Europe to escape his “messy” past, adopt a new identity, and, of course, to pursue true love. But Joe soon finds himself in the strange new role of reluctant detective as he discovers he may not be the only killer in London.
